Weeds Episode 7x05 Review

Episode Title: Fingers Only Meat Banquet
Overall Season Rating: B-
Episode Rating: B

This week we get a much more emotional episode than normal on Weeds. Silas has some very nice things to say about his mom, and with recent events in mind it's a very nice scene. Nancy goes through a rough time, but it does turn out well for her. Andy has a strange episode where he too has a couple important character moments. Doug beings to learn more about his new place of work, and it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. As for Shane, I don't even want to guess what he's doing but as always I'm concerned.

I'm starting to think that the comedy this year has been lessened on purpose. There was only one or two moments that were even jokes. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Weeds always has been a very dark comedy. People have died, and we've watched as Nancy systematically destroyed the lives of everyone she knows. This past week's Breaking Bad had more jokes, and that's a similar show plot wise. I do hope the jokes come back, but I am willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt. I think they know what they are doing.

I also want to apologize again for no review last week.

Read on for the recap.

The episode starts with Doug at work, they are celebrating their pure evil financial situation by having a fingers only meat banquet. Nancy is the meat lady at this particular event. Just then her lawyer enters, and tells her there is a custody hearing for Stevie. He got her a 48 hour furlough, and they need to be on the next plane to California. He also suggests she bring a character witness.   She chooses to bring Silas because A)He looks much less strange than Shane, and B)He's not a murderer. Shane is not happy about, but gives them $1500 from his loan money anyway. Silas agrees to go, but doesn't know what he's going to say.

Andy this week is still with Maxine and her husband. He's hanging out with Charles and they are discussing things like death. Andy seems uncomfortable with the situation, but he's still having fun talking to the guy. Then he falls over after mumbling something. Andy calls 911, and they tell him to give him CPR. He does, and Charles starts breathing. At the end of the episode he tells Maxine that this is not going to work. As we know, Andy is all about life and fun and energy. When he's with them it's all about darkness and death. I liked that this relationship went this way. It's totally understandable for not only his character, but also his current position. We know he cares for Nancy a great deal, and must be worried about her. Being with two people who always are so dark is not what he needs when he's away from the other Botwins.

When Nancy and Silas get to California, their Lawyer tells them that the hearing has been postponed two months. The reason given is because they know it's difficult for her to come out there, and they want her to make a scene. Nancy leaves in a fit of rage and goes to Jill's house. Meanwhile, Silas decides to talk to the Judge. Silas tells the judge that Nancy means well, and she does love them. He asks the Judge to give her a chance. It really is a very nice scene. We rarely get to see Silas talk about his mom in a positive way, and it seemed like he was being quite genuine.

At Jill's house, Nancy screams into the intercom for her, and wants to see Stevie. Jill's husband comes and tells her it won't happen. He seems like a decent man, but Jill is a real bitch. I really want to punch her in the face every single time we hear her voice. Nancy starts to climb over the fence, but one of the neighborhood security guys stop her. He handcuffs her, and tries to take her away. The car is electric, and is out of battery so they have to wait. During this time Nancy and Scott talk. It's another very nice scene. He tells her that he understands what it's like to not be able to see your kids. It was clear to me that he does feel sympathy for Nancy, and the only reason he is even with Jill is so he can see the kids.

Then, Silas and the Lawyer show up and tell Nancy the judge wants to see her. The judge says that he is not willing to give Jill custody "right now" because he wants to give Nancy the chance to get her life in order. He tells her "Don't reinvent the wheel", not to try and be a new person, and try and go back to the people she was with before she fell into the wrong crowd. This advice leads Nancy to take a long drive and arrive at a house in the middle of no where. Who do we find in the house? Heylia! Nancy's old rival/dealer/friend/enemy from the earlier seasons. I always wondered what happened to her.

Back in New York, Doug finds some problems with the books and brings it to his friend. They then go get hand job massages, and discuss it's better to just look good for investors. "It's good for the economy". This guy is such a crook. I have a horrible feeling that Doug will be the scapegoat for all the problems at this place. I hope that doesn't happen. We also learn that Doug has Synestesia. So that's cool. As for Shane, he sort of under the table enrolls in Applied Criminal Justice. I want to think he's doing this to help Nancy, but I just have a bad feeling. I always do when it comes to Shane.

With the return of Heylia things are going to get very nostalgic next week. I hope more people return too.
