Eureka Episode 4x12 Review

Episode Title: Reprise
Overall Season Rating: B+
Episode Rating: B+

Another good episode of Eureka. This week we're back to the standard "something is wrong in Eureka, and something minor and unintended is the cause. The problem this week was clever, and a lot of fun as usual. There also was a random side story with Allison that seemed completely out of nowhere for most of the episode. If you're a fan of music, specifically 80's music I think you will enjoy this episode too. There really wasn't anything I didn't like, but I think some of the story lines of the episode either dragged, or never really made sense.

All in all another fun episode of Eureka. Fargo acting silly, Jo acting crazy, and Jack acting confused. Oh, and I still miss the opening credits!!  Read on for the episode recap.

The episode starts out by introducing us to a new person in Eureka. Her name is Holly, and he likes to talk...a lot. Holly is played by Felicia Day. She works for Senator Wenn(last week I said Webb cause Fargo clearly says Webb). Fargo is pretty worried about this, mainly because the Senator made it sound like he was in a lot of trouble. He puts on "Eye of the Tiger" to pump himself up. I loved this scene, and the fact that it was actually relevant makes it even better. At the time I thought it was just Fargo acting silly.

Meanwhile, Allison leaves for a conference. She puts Jack in charge of taking care of her baby, and Kevin. At this point I'll go over her story since it pops in and out. While driving she gets a flat tire, and sees a car has gone off a cliff. With the help of the mans daughter, and a bloodhound app she finds the man and helps paramedics take him away.  We do learn later though that this was all a ploy. Beverly and her team of Eureka hating thugs kidnapped Allison, and implanted the new memories in her. Poor Allison, what could have happened to her?

Zane goes to see Jo and asks her if she's building a TARDIS home. Sadly, Jo has no idea what he means, but Zane just became one of my favorite characters. Doctor Who fans gotta stick together after all. Jo is still angry at him, but her anger turns to Fargo when Zane reveals he knows about the time travel. Jo confronts Fargo as he's showing Holly the FTL drive. Fargo turns it on, and Holly vanishes. Fargo just stands there pleased. This was pretty scary at the time. I was pretty confident she wasn't dead, but Jo doesn't know that. Fargo just standing there asking if people wanted to go get waffles was quite creepy. Kevin hears about this and suggests she might be at the "catcher's mit". Without even asking, he runs out the door and steals Jack's Jeep. Furious, Jack catches up to Kevin, and finds that he was correct about Holly.

Back to Jo and Zane, she again tells him that they won't work, and she storms off. Later she finds that he's torching her HOUSE!  Next scene, she's in jail(probably because she tried to kill him), and Jack realizes that Fargo and Zane are the ones acting strange and they both went into space. Maybe the FTL drive is to blame. Meanwhile, Henry and his wife are celebrating their 6 month anniversary, and are building some machine. Back at GD, Jo is helping them inspect the FTL when a bunch of dogs run by. Jack is on his way somewhere, and sees a huge rock slide that appears frozen. Kevin then takes off again.

It turns out that the people of Eureka are being affected by the music that they listen to. It's acting like a kind of suggestive hypnotism. "Burning Down the House", "Who Let the Dogs Out", "Eye of the Tiger" etc. My favorite moment though is when the delivery man walks in and asks "Did someone order 99 Red Balloons?" Love it!!  That's a great song too. We then see that Henry and his wife are listening to a song about stopping the world, and they are frozen.

Through some more investigating they find that Holly's music is the reason it's having an influence on people, but Henry has a machine that's causing the time bubbles. As Jack arrives at Henry's, Jo arrives and she's been listening to "I Shot the Sheriff" by Bob Marley. She then proceeds to shoot at Jack. He runs into the time bubble and is safe for now. Kevin changes the music to "Why Can't We Be Friends?", and she calms down. Kevin runs into Henry's and destroys the machine. Jo runs into the bullet's path and saves Jack. For a moment I did think Jo would be shot, but she's wearing Kevlar, and is fine.

Holly's story ends happy too as it turns out she's not there to shut them down, or find dirt on them. She's only there to check things over before the $20 Billion grant for the FTL drive comes through. I'm not sure if she'll be a regular on the show, but I hope she will me. The way she was annoying everyone with her constant babbling was definitely a lot of fun. Of course in the end Jo and Zane path things up and share a nice long kiss.

Like I said earlier, nothing was bad about the episode but I think the Jo/Zane stuff was getting a little frustrating. It seems like that's all over now though, and the only question is, will he keep his mouth shut about the time travel.  I also wonder where this Beverly story is going, and what were those things they implanted in Allison? Scary stuff for sure.
