The Killing, Day 12 Review

MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!

Well everyone, it seems we have our KILLER! Right off the bat I want to say that while I'm not 100% cool with the answer, the way it was revealed was amazing. It was definitely a "WOW" moment. I'll get back to this though because I do have more to say about it.

The episode begins in a way that's really interesting. During construction they find a skull in the area where they a building the Mayor's Water Front Revitalization Project. It would turn out that this was only a way for them to kill the Mayor's campaign, since we found out nothing about the person who once used that skull for a head. I was confused by the reaction to this. I understood why it would be an issue for the project, but why was everyone jumping ship like the Mayor did something wrong? Did the Governor really switch to Richmond based solely on the idea that the the skull would cause the Mayor to lose? I dunno maybe I'm dense, but I thought they all overreacted to this. What I think though is kind of moot since that's what the show is doing. After this Richmond gets endorsements, and seems to have the election in the bag. This causes the Mayor to drop off some pictures to his campaign. We find out at the end what the pictures are in what I'm calling "The RICHMOND IS THE KILLER Montage". More on that later.

We also find out that Linden's ex-husband(Tahmoh Penikett) has been in Chicago for 10 years and has been "AWOL" in Linden's words. I guess I was wrong about him beating her, so now I have no frakking clue what that hospital comment meant. Maybe she was injured in the line of duty, but they've never talked about it since so that's a strange piece of information to leave hanging.  The only marriage on the show is on the rocks too. Stan's story this week is pretty static. He's still in jail, and trying for bail. Mitch comes to see him and tells him she knows all about his monetary losses. He had gone to his old boss Yanek for help, and she is understandably not happy about that. She even suggests that could have lead to Rosie's death. We all know it didn't, but it's all good. He would get bail, and Stan had a very nice scene with a psychiatrist where he talks about dream he had.

The Rosie case though was again the center of the episode after last week's very well done vacation. They find out that young girls are used as Beau Soleil in connection with the casino Rosie was spotted at. A Beau Soleil is someone who "introduces" men to certain fun times. I'm not sure if they were saying Rosie was a call girl, but definitely got the feeling some of the girls involved would go that far. Perhaps not though. We then get a pretty shocking development. Terry, who had been giving Rosie her ID to get into clubs was a Beau Soleil on the website they find. She tells Linden and Holder about a girl who was on a "date" with someone named Orpheus. Orpheus had brought the girl to the lake, and asked her if she ever wondered about drowning. This clearly is a big "BINGO" for Linden and Holder, and they run off to find this person.

I was a bit confused why Terry didn't go to them earlier about this. She knew Rosie was going to the Casino, and knew Rosie could have been involved in the Beau Soleil. Wouldn't she go the cops and tell them this could have something to do with her death? She clearly liked Rosie a lot. I would understand why she wouldn't want Rosie's parents to know, but it's a HUGE piece of information that if they got on like day 2, they would have solved the case on like...day 2. But then there wouldn't have been a show, so I forgive her.

They find out that Orpheus had an account on the Beau Soleil site, and he used a girl named Aleena the night he talked about drowning. Orpheus closed his account and his E-mail didn't lead to him. Linden however sends an E-mail to Orpheus telling him "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID". I should mention that at this time they are thinking it's billionaire Tom Drexler. While that was the going theory, I was not pleased. He didn't even appear until much later in the season, and that would not be fair to us if he was the killer.

Holder has a "date" with Aleena, and he gets her to tell him about Orpheus. She says he seemed "sweet" until he brought her down to the water and asked her about drowning. He described it to her quite graphically, and naturally she found it very creepy. Holder takes out pictures of Rosie and tells her she was the dress rehearsal, and Rosie was the real deal. At the time she doesn't tell him who Orpheus was, but she didn't deny that it was Drexler.

Linden goes to talk to Richmond about Drexler, and see if he knows anything. While there, she finds out that Orpheus got the email, but had not responded. She asks the dude she left in charge of her computer to send it again. At that very moment she hears a "ding". This was a VERY cool reveal, and I did not see it coming at all. She asks him to send it again, and once again "ding". She locates his computer and indeed it's confirmed that Orpheus is Richmond. At the same moment, Aleena called Holder and told him she wanted protection, and would tell him who Orpheus was if he met her. When he arrives at the meeting spot, she's gone but he sees where she was calling from and there's a huge wall of "Richmond for Mayor" posters. This is RICHMOND IS THE KILLER point two. Point three is in Richmond's office as his aide is going through the pictures from the Mayor. They are pictures of him and Rosie having lots of fun. Oops.

I'm not sure how I feel about Richmond being the killer. I mean it's cool and all, but something about it bothers me. I'm not really sure why yet. Maybe because he's one of the guys you would list in the first episode, and then think "no, it can't be that obvious." I honestly never considered him for that very reason. How about you guys? Did you think it was him? Are more surprises coming?

Next week is the finale. Any predictions?
