Best Sci-Fi Villain -- The Master
The Master is brilliant, nearly immortal, and completely evil. First introduced along side the Third Doctor, he spent the next 20 years tormenting the Doctor by coming up with scheme after scheme. He always lost, but sometimes with serious cost. His actions have killed the Doctor more than once, and all that time all he wanted was for the Doctor to see him as an equal.
He looks up to the Doctor so much, and desperately wants to be seen as a genius that he's willing to take over, or destroy the universe in order to get that respect. If that sounds insane, that's because it is.
Roger Delgado was the first Master and his persona of being a refined businessman type perfectly held in contrast to the Doctor's professorial/scientific manner. The interesting thing though is that while The Doctor is the hero of the series and a great man he often is very rude to the humans around him. He'll demean them for not understanding things as fast as him, and lies to them about his actions. The Master on the other hand is the villain and a psychotic but he is often very polite and understanding of the humans around him. Now of course this is so they follow him and believe in him, but it's still an interesting dichotomy between these two Time Lords.
The last time we saw the Master he was saving the Doctor, and the rest of the Universe by forcing the Time Lords back into the time lock. John Simm's Master was quite different from Delgado, but he was almost as amazing. It's revealed during his tenure that this whole time the Master has had a drumming sound in his head, and this has lead him to madness and a need to take over everything. He viewed the sound as a march to war.
I'm not sure if or when we'll see him again but I hope it's soon. I can never get too much Master!
